NetApp Virtual Storage Console for VMware vSphere Tutorial

NetApp Virtual Storage Console Installation:


Double click the NetApp VC4.0.exe


Welcome Screen, Click Next .....



NetApp Virtual Storage Console comes with the following capabilities.


       Monitoring and Host Configuration
       Provisioning and Cloning
       Optimization and Migration
       Backup and Recovery ( Separate License Required)


  





Select the default installation location or browse the new location.




 Virtual Storage Console forVMware Vsphere must be registered with vCenter plugin.

Installing the NetApp Virtual Storage Console.




Starting the service.





vCenter Server Registration.


Hostname or ipaddress of vCenter server.


Username and Password of the vCenter server.







Installation  successfully completed.





vCenter server registration successfully.






Now You login through vCenter server ( Access via vSphere Client).


In the Solutions and Applications, you have NetApp icon. Click this and you manage and monitor your NetApp Filer.








Add the NetApp Filer, using Add button and give the Hostname or ipaddress, username and password of a filer.





Now, the FASSENTHIL filer was added. It supports the NFS and iscsi protocols.







There are three Sections in Virtual Storage Console.


1. Monitoring and Host Configuration
2. Provisioning and Cloning
3. Optimization and Migration


Now, In monitoring and Host configuration section, you click storage details of SAN & NAS.





Available tools download and install.





Discovery Status of NetApp Filer and vCenter Server.





You can see the storage controllers and resources for provisioning and cloning.



List the available data store in the vSphere and scanning details.



You can list the mapped host information in the SAN store details.






You can collect the system log data using the Data collection tab.





To view the storage details.





About the Virtual Storage Console information.







You can access the NetApp Virtual Storage Console from NetApp Tab in vCenter  Server.







By default data De-Duplication is disabled for all the volumes.


To enable, install ASIS license in NetApp Filer.


Then, enable the deduplication.


FASSENTHIL> sis on /vol/esxvol


FASSENTHIL> sis start -s /vol/esxvol


FASSENTHIL> sis status





Now DeDuplication in enabled.







The second LUN is also disabled.



To enable the sis, 


sis on volname





Now update the filer.



Filer is updating .





Now the second volume is also enabled with deduplication.







Fast NAS (NFS SHARE) provisioning with Virtual Storage Console.





Select the NFS or FCP LUN





Select the Aggregate, Volume and Volume Size.





Summary of the new volume.







List the Storage Details NAS.
